Pilin Thai Restaurant Week Date Night

After looking at all the FCNP Falls Church Restaurant Week specials, I was wondering which spot would be the best place to take my girlfriend while also giving us interesting food choices at a very reasonable price (lol, sounds like me). If you are a reader of this site, then you saw the Pilin Thai Restaurant Week Special listed in our top 3 Dinner deals. Well they shift up to the #1 seed when it comes to date night with their 2 person meal, reasonably priced wine, and wonderful date night ambiance. Just don't bring a first date to this unless you prep them that they have limited choices. LOL.

Pilin Thai is a laid back, semi-casual thai place located right down in the heart of Falls Church on West Broad Street. The restaurant features a romantic setting with 80's love songs flowing out of the ceiling and bottles of wine & flowers on every table. It isn't super-romantic, so don't worry, you can bring your bros.

$25 - 2 Appetizers, 2 Entrees, 2 Desserts

The special includes 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts, making it a pretty good meal for two. Several of the other Restaurant Week specials feature meals for ONE PERSON for $20-$25. I'm not huge into thai food, but I have eaten here a few times and by the time I get home, I end up craving more, so they are doing something right.

Course 1: The Appetizer

  • Wonton Soup
  • Tom Kha Gai soup
  • Crispy Spring Rolls
  • Crispy Veggie Rolls
  • Ka Nom Jeeb (steamed dumpling)
  • Ho Ob (steamed mussels)

For your first choice, both you and your date pick your own appetizer. These plates are pretty small, so sharing them isn't very easy. Your best sharing combo is to go with the steamed dumplings and the crispy rolls (spring or veggie). I'm selfish, so I went with the mussels. They were the best I've had in Falls Church so far.

Course 2: The Entree

  • Pad Thai Chicken
  • Pad Thai Vegetable
  • Chicken & Shrimp Peanut Sauce over noodles
  • Signature “3 Flavored” Chicken
  • Spicy Crispy Catfish
  • Thai Pineapple Fried Rice
  • Chicken Pad Gra Pow
  • Beef Pad Gra Pow
  • Pork Pad Gra Pow
  • Tofu Pad Gra Pow

For your second choice, you each choose between several different and varied entrees that range on the spicy level from mild to very spicy. I went with the spicy catfish, which turned out not to be too spicy (eat the green peppers to spice it up) despite having the most chili peppers (3 peppers) on the menu listing. It was good, but I wish I had tried another menu item.

Course 3: The Dessert

  • Mango & Sticky Rice
  • Thai Custard

For the third choice, you each get a dessert. Not many selections here as you have two thai desserts to choose from. Here's my problem. I don't like either of these things. I took one bite of the custard and couldn't do it. I wish they had like ice cream or something. Oh well. The first two courses were good.

Bonus: Cheap Wine - $12

  • AVIA Chardonnay
  • AVIA Pinot Grigio
  • AVIA Pinot Noir
  • Grand Cru Sauvignon Blanc
  • Grand Cru Cabernet
  • Grand Cru Merlot

You are already spending $25, but what is a date without a bottle of wine. I know I might get punched in the face if I commandeer the drink order and opt for two waters. So why not get some wine! But don't get too crazy. Choose from one of their 6 $12 bottles of wine. Classy!

So that's the deal! You get a lot of different food options for just over $30 after tip. Throw in some wine and your date is under $50 at one of the nicer places in town.
