We do a lot of talking about beer here and some people wonder if we ever eat food. Well on occasion we do add some solid items to our liquid diet, and we have some lunch in the Little City. For the first time in about 10 visits to Dogwood Tavern, I decided to order up a regular menu item.
Dogwood Tavern's menu for lunch (and dinner) consists of lots of burgers, sandwiches/wraps, entrees, and soups & salads. There are several great looking sandwiches to choose from. However, I stayed inside the box and went with my favorite kind of sandwich in the whole world (grilled cheese is catching up), the steak & cheese.
The Dogwood Philly comes with steak (or chicken), provolone cheese, lettuce, and tomato. It also comes with mushrooms and grilled onions at no extra cost. This little meal will currently run you $9.50, which isn't the cheapest lunch you can get, but add a craft beer to your order and you've got yourself a nice solid beer lunch.
Aside from the main course, when you get one of the sandwiches or wraps at Dogwood it comes with a side. Typically, people opt for the delicious waffle fries. However, you can also choose from the following:
WAFFLE FRIES • TATER TOTS • SIDE SALAD • CREAMED CORN • SAUTEED GREEN BEANS • SWEET POTATO CASSEROLE • JUSTIFIABLY FAMOUS COLESLAW • VIRGINIA HAM MAC AND CHEESE • ROASTED RED POTATOES • BAKED SWEET POTATO (after 5pm) • BAKED RUSSET POTATO (after 5pm) • COLLARD GREENS • POTATOES AU GRATIN
LOL, that is a lot of choices.
I would suggest if you've never had them, to go with the waffle fries as your side. However, don't just eat them with ketchup. Ask for some Malt Vinegar and drench those suckers. That's the only way to go.
Overall, Dogwood isn't your typical quick lunch spot, but they do have an extensive menu of sandwiches for under $10 and a whole lot of beer. A good place to kill an hour during your 30 minute lunch break from work.
