Abita Harvest Fruit Seasonal Beers, Grapefruit IPA and Strawberry Lager

Chasin' Tails is your northern Virginia headquarters for Abita Beer. This crawfish restaurant currently features 8 different Abita bottles and 1 on draft (I drank almost all of them on Mardi Gras). Two of the newest Louisiana beers that are now available in a bottle are the Harvest Grapefruit IPA and the Harvest Strawberry Lager. Here's all you need to know about these fruit beers from the Bayou State.

Brewer's Description: Abita Strawberry Harvest is a lager brewed with pilsner and wheat malts and Vanguard hops. Real Louisiana strawberry juice is added after filtration resulting in a crisp lager with a sweet strawberry flavor, aroma and haze. It is wonderful with desserts or lighter fare such as salads and pastas. Fresh cheeses such as Burrata, chèvre, Crescenza, mozzarella or Teleme pair well with Strawberry Harvest. (via Abita)

I typically HATE fruity beer...But this Strawberry one was really awesome. Take my man card away if you want, but this tasted more like soda to me than beer, and I liked it.

Brewer's Description: Abita Grapefruit Harvest is a brilliant golden IPA with a subtle zest of grapefruit flavor and aroma that enhances the strong hop character. This bright, snappy brew is made with real Louisiana Ruby-Red grapefruits, pale, pilsner and caramel malts and cascade hops. The strong hop profile and subtle zest of grapefruit make it a good choice with grilled chicken. This brew would also pair well with ceviche or raw Louisiana oysters. (via Abita)

This one was not as fruity as the Strawberry. Lots of IPAs (especially at Mad Fox) feature hints of grapefruit. This one is very grapefruit heavy but not too overwhelming. My mouth wanted to taste a normal IPA the whole time I was drinking it. And the darn fruit was getting in the way.
