Exploring Happy Hour 2 Part I: Ireland's Four Provinces

It was Friday again, and that means it was time for another Happy Hour Exploration Bar Crawl! At 4pm I threw my work computer out the window and I headed down the the Fizzy Chizzy, aka Falls Church City.  I'm Irish like a mug, so why not start at an Irish pub!

I walked into Ireland's Four Provinces and was pleasantly surprised by their Happy Hour. The bartender and his Irish accent greeted me as I sat down at the bar. "What are ya havin' young fella?"

He told me about Happy Hour (Monday-Friday, 3:30pm-7:00pm) and the current drink specials ($1 off drafts/rails/house wine).  I'm not a huge fan of the old $1 off specials bit, but hell it is better than paying regular price and after you can still afford to rent Home Alone on Redbox...oh crap, not anymore ($1.20).

The beer special may not have been anything great, but the food specials smack you right in the face. During Happy Hour they run for $5 and include a variety of greasy bar foods (wings, potato skins, gaelic bites, spinach & crab dip, sliders, and Guinness steak skewers). I really wanted to order the sliders (which the bartender described as f**king awesome) but unfortunately I was on a strict beer only diet.

I ordered an IPA, which I believe constantly rotates, and at this time it was from Three Brother's Brewery in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I'm not sure which IPA it was as they have a couple. After $1 off this was $4.50 for a pint which is not the greatest price special (Dogwood Tavern across the street has $3 for their "micro of the month") but I liked trying the beer nonetheless.

The atmosphere in the place was classic Irish Pub.  There was a basket of these weird black & white parchments with words and pictures all over them right in front of me. If memory serves me these are called "newspapers". There were some older regulars at the bar and because it was so early the rest of the place was empty.

The bar also lists different weekly specials on their website which I will have to go back and check out. The $17 all you can eat Sunday brunch (10:00am-2:30pm) looked interesting and I really want to check out the Wednesday night Pub Quiz Trivia (8:00pm). Monday (after 5) & Sunday (before 5) feature half price burgers, there is a $14 Thursday night shake special too, and it is open for breakfast on Sunday at 9am.

It looks like it would be a fun place to go to listen to live music (Monday 9pm, Friday 8pm) and there is a cool looking outdoor section that I think would be relaxing.

Well you think I gathered enough intel? After my beer I headed out. There were more places to go!
