Dogwood Tavern Micro Of The Month: AleWerks Chesapeake Pale Ale

Each month, Dogwood Tavern offers a different craft beer on special during their Happy Hour (Monday-Friday, 3pm-7pm). They call the beer their "Micro of the Month" and during happy hour it runs for $3 a glass.

January's beer: AleWerks Chesapeake Pale Ale

Alewerks Brewery is located in Williamsburg, Virginia and has been pumping out beer since 2006. The Chesapeake Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale (like Sierra Nevada) described by Alewerks:

Our dry-hopped Pale ale is golden in color with a pleasant citrus hop aroma followed by flavors of light malt and American hops. Finishes smooth with a light hop finish. ABV: 5.7%

Beer Advocate has the beer rated at an 81. I tried it and liked it. It is very light so if  you don't typically like microbrews you may not mind this one.

I suggest going to Dogwood Tavern on a Tuesday to try this Virginia beer for $3 and take advantage of their Raw Bar Happy Hour specials ($4 each for 1/2 dozen raw oysters, 1/4 lbs steamed shrimp, 1 dozen sauteed mussels, 1/2 dozen steamed clams, and $8 for 2 crab leg clusters)
